Painted Hutch Door

in , by Julie Nichols, October 02, 2014

Hello & Happy October!

Today I'm sharing a simple way to layer different paint colors to achieve an aged look.

This small door came from an antique hutch that was gifted to from my mother-in-law.

A few years ago I  repurposed the hutch into an entertainment center for our living room.

The door on the hutch was a non-working door, so I removed it and stored it away.
I finally took it out of hiding and gave it some love.

Here it is  Before.
Don't worry you don't have blurred vision.
This is what happens when the person taking the pictures (me) doesn't hold the camera steady.
Sorry about that.
BTW the entire hutch was this color.

I sanded the door, then mixed the paint colors below and started painting.

I gave the door several coats of different paint colors,  letting it dry between coats.
After mixing, painting, sanding, mixing, painting, painting and more sanding...
Whew hewww!
I came up with this.

In case you're wondering what the entertainment center looks like, you can see it here on my summer home tour.
LOOK..... in the middle, where the basket is..... that is where the door was.
The top part of the hutch/entertainment center is stored in a spare room.

I could put the door back on and give this ole piece another facelift.

  1. Your door turned out great, Julie. I really like all of the subtle colors you can see peeking through. All of that sanding was worth it!!
