Hi, friends, a few years ago I wrote a post on how I repurposed my daughter's puzzle stool into a chunky wood display board.  Today I gave that same wood board a makeover using purse handles and a vintage sign stencil.

Here is a picture of the puzzle stool after it was repurposed the first time. Click the link below to read the full tutorial on how I repurposed it into a chunky wood display board.  Here is the link to that post Repurposed Puzzle Stool.

NOW ON TO TODAY'S PROJECT

It's funny how one project can lead to another. I had no idea that I would find inspiration for a repurpose by cleaning out my closet.  It all started the other day when I found purses that were buried in my closet that I obviously haven't used in a while. I decided it would be a good idea to donate the ones that were in good condition and use the others for my repurpose projects. There was one purse in particular that had a pair of faux leather handles that I liked.  I knew I could use them for one of my projects, but  I wasn't sure what sort of project until I received my stencils in the mail, from Angie at Knick Of Time's Vintage Sign Stencils.  Then it hit me!  I could makeover my chunky wood display board using a stencil and the purse handles.

I LAID OUT MY SUPPLIES AND GOT STARTED

.

One Puzzle Stool mine measures 20''x 9" and is 2inches thick. Of course, not everyone has a puzzle stool!  So I did a little research and found a block of wood on Amazon that is a lot cheaper than a puzzle stool and has the same thickness as mine.  Here is the link Amazon.com

Sandpaper (150 grit)

TAPE THE STENCIL TO THE BOARD

APPLY ONE COAT OF WHITE ACRYLIC PAINT THEN APPLY ONE COAT OF THE GRAY ACRYLIC PAINT

WHILE THE PAINT IS STILL WET CAREFULLY PEEL OFF THE STENCIL.
THEN LET THE PAINT DRY

AFTER THE PAINT IS DRY LIGHTLY SAND THE ENTIRE PIECE

USE SCREWS TO SECURE THE PURSE HANDLES

MARK THE HOLES WHERE THE SCREWS WILL BE PLACED

ATTACH THE PURSE HANDLES USING THE SCREWS AND A SCREWDRIVER

THAT'S IT!
NOW I HAVE A DECORATIVE FARMHOUSE TRAY TO DISPLAY MY FAVORITE ITEMS!

Right now I am using it in our Guest Bedroom.  I clipped a few hydrangeas to display on top of my decorative farmhouse tray.

The other day while I was shopping I couldn't resist picking up this galvanized metal tray.  When I saw it in the store I had this great idea of using a vintage stencil that I had waiting for me back home.

A few weeks ago I received several stencils from Angie at  Knick of Time's Vintage Sign Stencils. This was my first time using these beautiful stencils and I have to tell you how much I love them! They are high-quality and are made of thick plastic which made stenciling a breeze, plus they are very easy to clean!
BEFORE

Here is the tray I purchased

The stencil I picked for this project is FARM FRESH MILK DELIVERED DAILY.

If you never stenciled on galvanized metal and are interested in starting, I put together a simple tutorial for you to follow, plus some shopping links for supplies. Let's get started......

Use Painters Tape or Stencil Adhesive to hold the stencil in place.

Use a Foam Pouncer to apply the paint in thin coats. I usually use a brush, but I wanted to try out my new foam pouncer. The foam pouncer was easy to use and easy to clean up.

Mix Acrylic Craft Paint with a Multi-Purpose Sealer the sealer improves paint adhesion on slick surfaces like metal.  I mixed half paint to half of the sealer.

Dip the pouncer in the mixture and dab off excess paint onto a paper towel. Apply the paint to the stencil by starting at the outside edges, dabbing the pouncer in a circular motion while moving toward the center.

Carefully remove the stencil and wait for the paint to dry.  To protect the paint from scratching and chipping apply  Clear Acrylic Gloss Spray.  Make sure the acrylic spray dries completely before putting your decor on top.

That's all there is to it!

I have a few more stencils from Knick of Time's Vintage Sign Stencils that I will be using for future projects.  I can't wait to share those with you!

Thank you, Angie, for sending me these amazing stencils!

Hi friends, I'm so excited to share with you this oh so simple repurpose using a dollar store clock. For this repurpose I used a dollar store clock and a map of a seaside town on Long Island where I use to live and work. The town is called East Hampton and even though I don't live there anymore I still like to visit from time to time stopping at my favorite antique stores, and farm stands.

If you have a clock that is broken or one that you simply don't use anymore you can repurpose it into a picture frame.  This is a super easy project to do and can be done in under 15 minutes.  All you need is a pair of scissors and some glue & a clock of course.

If you'd like to try this repurpose follow the tutorial below:

BEFORE

Remove the back cover using a screwdriver.

.
I took everything out including the glass.

I have a collection of maps that I like to use for my repurpose projects.  I ripped out this one of East Hampton to put in my frame.

I used the glass from the clock to trace where I want to frame the map, then I cut it out.

Next, I glued the map on top of the cardstock to make the map sturdy.

Then I reassembled everything by putting the glass back first, then the picture of the map, and then the clock.

FLIP CLOCK OVER                                                SCREW INTO PLACE

Now you don't see the clock but you do see the map!  And I still have a clock if I ever want to use it again.
That's it!
