As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, fall is my favorite time to fill the weekends with intimate gatherings with family and friends.  A fall table set for entertaining doesn't need to be extravagant to be beautiful.  Here are some of my favorite ways to style an intimate and simple fall table for entertaining:

ONE

Whether you are entertaining for two or more welcome your guests by greeting them with a glass of wine served in a wooden tray.  Paint the inside of the tray with gold spray paint for a festive look. shop trays.

TWO

Serve simple hors d'oeuvres like rosemary bread, fruit, assorted cheeses, and a seasonal salad.  My favorite simple dish to make is root vegetables roasted in the oven with olive oil and sea salt.  Prepare as much as you can in advance so you can enjoy spending time with your guests. If you're not into cooking or just don't have the time catering is a good idea!  You can serve the catered food in pretty dishes and bowls, your guests will never know. (unless you tell them of course)

THREE

Make a simple centerpiece with just turned leaves. You'd be surprised what beautiful ingredients you can find for your arrangement in your own backyard.  Or you can purchase faux leaves, they are just as pretty as real ones and require no initial care. Style your centerpiece on your table with candles or place on a sideboard. Shop faux fall stems.

FOUR

Make sure you have comfortable seating for your guests, no one wants to sit on a hard rickety chair.  Think about bringing in seating from other rooms in your home. This is easy to do when you are entertaining for two or four.  Simply bring in your chairs from another room and place them around the table.  Shop dining room chairs.

FIVE

I enjoy baking and like to send my guests home with freshly baked cookies. Store-bought cookies and chocolates are other options.  Place the goodies in small fabric bags and hand them out as your guests leave for their ride home. Shop fabric bags.
