Hi, friends, a few years ago I wrote a post on how I repurposed my daughter's puzzle stool into a chunky wood display board.  Today I gave that same wood board a makeover using purse handles and a vintage sign stencil.

Here is a picture of the puzzle stool after it was repurposed the first time. Click the link below to read the full tutorial on how I repurposed it into a chunky wood display board.  Here is the link to that post Repurposed Puzzle Stool.

NOW ON TO TODAY'S PROJECT

It's funny how one project can lead to another. I had no idea that I would find inspiration for a repurpose by cleaning out my closet.  It all started the other day when I found purses that were buried in my closet that I obviously haven't used in a while. I decided it would be a good idea to donate the ones that were in good condition and use the others for my repurpose projects. There was one purse in particular that had a pair of faux leather handles that I liked.  I knew I could use them for one of my projects, but  I wasn't sure what sort of project until I received my stencils in the mail, from Angie at Knick Of Time's Vintage Sign Stencils.  Then it hit me!  I could makeover my chunky wood display board using a stencil and the purse handles.

I LAID OUT MY SUPPLIES AND GOT STARTED

.

One Puzzle Stool mine measures 20''x 9" and is 2inches thick. Of course, not everyone has a puzzle stool!  So I did a little research and found a block of wood on Amazon that is a lot cheaper than a puzzle stool and has the same thickness as mine.  Here is the link Amazon.com

Sandpaper (150 grit)

TAPE THE STENCIL TO THE BOARD

APPLY ONE COAT OF WHITE ACRYLIC PAINT THEN APPLY ONE COAT OF THE GRAY ACRYLIC PAINT

WHILE THE PAINT IS STILL WET CAREFULLY PEEL OFF THE STENCIL.
THEN LET THE PAINT DRY

AFTER THE PAINT IS DRY LIGHTLY SAND THE ENTIRE PIECE

USE SCREWS TO SECURE THE PURSE HANDLES

MARK THE HOLES WHERE THE SCREWS WILL BE PLACED

ATTACH THE PURSE HANDLES USING THE SCREWS AND A SCREWDRIVER

THAT'S IT!
NOW I HAVE A DECORATIVE FARMHOUSE TRAY TO DISPLAY MY FAVORITE ITEMS!

Right now I am using it in our Guest Bedroom.  I clipped a few hydrangeas to display on top of my decorative farmhouse tray.

  1. Never in a million years would I have guessed it that was a puzzle stool. What a beautiful way to give it a makeover as a farmhouse tray, Julie. Pinning it!
