One reason why I love home decor so much is, that you can recreate any atmosphere anywhere you like, simply by mixing vintage pieces, and lighting. Hello and welcome!  I wanted to bring a bit of warmth to our white quartz countertops with a small table lamp, it's my favorite kitchen accessory trend for this year.  This timeless trend of displaying a tabletop lamp on the kitchen counter is easy to do and will add character and warmth to your kitchen for the winter months and throughout the year.

I purchased a small vintage lamp years ago at a consignment store and recently placed it on our kitchen countertop to recreate the cozy aesthetic that we have in our living spaces.

The space between our countertops and upper cabinets is about 17 inches so this 8-inch lamp works beautifully. Beyond offering texture and color It's just so cozy!  I like to keep the overhead kitchen lights off and just have a soft glow of light in the evening. This has become my favorite time of day because I love the cozy aesthetic the lamp brings to our kitchen.

Here are images from my archives of other lamps that I used on our previous kitchen countertop

It's time for a cozy atmosphere and to open a nice bottle of wine. I put together a round-up with an assortment of pretty lamps that will fit most kitchen countertops without taking up too much counter space.

Small Lamps For Kitchen Countertops:

What do you think?

Hello friends, I've been meaning to write a post for a while now, but sometimes, you just don't get around to it. Let's just say I am happy to start a new year. With each new year, I like to find out what is trending in the interior design world, and I thought it would be fun to discuss the interior design trends for 2023.

I find that the one thing that's really interesting with interior design trends is there is a bit of a slow incoming so we start to see it over time. You start to see things in design magazines, or online then you start seeing it more in the mainstream like in retail and corporate spaces or on tv then it whines down where it actually gets into our homes.

Because trends come and go I like to avoid trends that are way too trendy and instead focus on the trends that are simple to do, long-lasting, and work with my style.  There are a lot of trends in the world of interiors and it would be impossible for me to cover all of them so I put together three that are easy to do and will get you excited to decorate your house this year. I hope this sounds fun to you because I know I definitely love to chat about decorating so let's jump right in.

 NUMBER ONE

SHOP VINTAGE AND THRIFTED ITEMS

Vintage and thrifted items can bring personality and character to any space whether it be modern or traditional. They also have the added benefit of being readily available so you don't have to worry about a long wait to have your items shipped. To achieve this trend you can visit your local consignment, antique, or thrift shops for unique pieces.  This is something that I've been doing for years and find it fun to mix the old with the new.  Finding a piece of furniture that blends beautifully with the newer pieces in my home brings character.  I also like thrifting small things like lamps, vases, and dishware.

TWO

WOOD FURNITURE

Dark wood furniture is making a comeback. We are moving to deep and medium wood tones. One of the simplest ways to hop on this trend is to opt for natural furniture pieces in a dark wood tone. Think of rich walnut side tables or chestnut bookshelves. Also, think of the smaller touches of wood like chairs and sofas with dark wood-toned legs. Add a statement piece of furniture such as a dark walnut coffee table. Keep it balanced by having different wood tones throughout the design and avoid matching sets. Matching sets can look outdated in your design. Instead, choose lighter wood to compliment the dark wood furniture.  Look for Wood furniture that has warmth and coziness like vintage and antique pieces.

THREE

SMALL KITCHEN COUNTERTOP LAMPS

Make your kitchen an extension of your home by creating a cozy feeling you would get from sitting in your living room. Think about that warm and comfortable spot in your living room or at a restaurant that has a warm ambiance.  One way to create that cozy feeling in your kitchen is with a small lamp. You can find small tabletop lamps just about anywhere. They will bring character to your kitchen and elevate it to that designer look. It's also the easiest way to be on trend in 2023. I have one on our kitchen countertop and I love the warm glow and character it brings to our kitchen. You can also place one on the kitchen island.  Cordless lamp options are great too!

About 90 percent of items in our home are things I bought second-hand or picked up on the side of the road.  My favorite places to shop second-hand are consignment stores, yard sales, and estate sales.

I purchased this sweet plate rack at a yard sale about a year ago. Poor thing has been sitting in my workroom waiting for me to give it some love.

When I shop at yard sales I intentionally look for items that are broken but have good bones.  This solid wood plate rack is a good example of what I search for.  As you can see it is missing a dowel. A missing part doesn't bother me. I can replace it or leave it as is like I did here.

Did you know that paint is my best friend?  Well metaphorically speaking.

For this project, I applied three coats of latex paint called Cream Silk by Benjamin Moore. For the dowels I used one coat of Refreshing; it is a chalky finish made by Americana Decor.  I am in love with this color!!

BEFORE

After the paint dried, I distressed the wood, then added burlap to the back.

AFTER

I clipped a few hydrangeas, placed them in a basket and hung them next to two French tea towels.

I purchased the tea towels from my favorite online shop Decor Steals.

Two milk bottles (a yard sale purchase) are displayed on the top shelf above thrift store plates.

HI FRIENDS

OH HAPPY DAY'S
SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!

WELCOME TO OUR LITTLE CAPE BY THE BAY

I am so happy to share with you our living room all decked out for summer.

We live in a coastal community surround by the beautiful bay and cove on Eastern Long Island.  Our home is a cape cod style.  The front door leads into a small vestibule which opens up into the living room, our favorite place to hang out!

Come on in..... Molly and I will show you around.

This area is used as our foyer.
The mirror is just left of the vestibule and a white chest is on the opposite wall.

Our entire home is decorated with yard sale finds, roadside giveaways and repurposed items.

I like to keep an open heart and mind when shopping at yard sales.
My home is my canvas and I go with my gut instincts and my individual way of decorating.  In other words, I follow my own inner voice when looking for items for our home.

My husband & I pulled the white chest out of a neighbors trash.  It is brand new just missing the drawer slides.  Luckily my husband is handy and was able to add them to the drawers.

My idea for our home is to keep it simple with a warm feeling.  I thought a sectional would be perfect for our small family.  It fits snug against the wall with plenty of space around it to showcase family photos.  The three of us sit comfortably here along with Molly and our kitty.  This sectional had a chaise on the end, it took up to much space so I removed it and placed it in another room.

I purchased the antique coffee table at a yard sale.  I am thinking of staining it a weathered gray.
The small table left of the sectional was a trash giveaway.

Blue is my go-to color to decorate with.  It is my favorite color and you will find it throughout our home.  Even our ceiling is blue! A custom mix made by my hubby.  There is no name for this color he just mixed whatever leftover paint we had and came up with this pretty blue.

The wall  color is Benjamin Moore 208 (Da Vinci's Canvas)

My take-out food box held up well.  I made it about a year ago.

Our entertainment center sits between two windows with the TV mounted on the wall.  The entertainment center was a hutch that we had in our kitchen. I repurposed it by removing the top piece (where the china would be displayed)  replaced the door with a chalkboard purchased from Decor Steals,  placed a DVD player and cable box where a drawer was and painted it white.  I leaned the door to the hutch on top of it. (I painted that as well with a mix of different paint colors.)

Our old fluorescent light fixture from our kitchen is now a wall vase/sometimes picture hanger.

This horse is one of my favorite finds purchased in the spring at a barn sale.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE TOP OF THE ENTERTAINMENT CENTER

Race boat trophies I spray painted, vintage house numbers... I used push pins and just pinned them to the cardboard that came with the frame, the louver shutter came off the entertainment center {hutch} and a couple of my photos sit on top.

A shelf placed behind our sectional holds photos of our daughter.  The lamps I spray painted turquoise and distressed.  The metal letters on the wall are our initials.  (purchased at TJ Maxx.)
{I stained the shelf and my husband hung the brackets.}

I made a gallery wall of some of my favorite pictures.

These pretty frames are from Two's Company.  I purchased them many years ago.

A Decor Steals pillow lays on top of my favorite chair purchased on sale at Home Goods.

Hand-painted driftwood sign made by me sits on top of another roadside giveaway.

Mussels are abundant on Long Island.  I love them with tomato sauce over pasta.
Here is one hand painted..... it is one of my favorite little shells.

I love decorating with natural elements.  In the summer I use seashells, beach glass, flowers, and driftwood.  I used a small shell to cover up the nail above the picture.

I love flowers they add an instant freshness to any room!!

Turquoise is my favorite summer color!

I love rooms with character and personal charm and I work to achieve that in my home.  I like to add unexpected, whimsical surprises in an unconventional way.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of our little seaside home.

Molly and I thank you for stopping by!

Hope you come back to see our Hooray for summer kitchen tour.
Have a Beautiful Day!!
