It's time for another One Room Challenge update!  This week the mirror and area rug for the entryway were delivered, I hung the shades and curtains and finished a new project that wasn't on my original to-do list.

I also have some news to share from Linda the creator of the ORC.  Linda extended the challenge for an extra week due to the natural disasters (hurricanes and wildfires) that lead up to or occurred during the challenge.  My heart goes out to everyone affected by them.

Shipments and scheduled work have been delayed or canceled altogether for many designers so it makes sense for the extra week.  The new reveal date for the designers will be November 15th  and the new reveal date for the guest participants (me) will be November 16th so mark your calendars.

In case you are stopping by for the first time here is my design plan that I am working on.   If you'd like to catch up from the beginning you can do so here:  Week 1/      Week 2/      Week 3     Now on to week 4........

I decided this week to add wainscoting to our tiny vestibule.  This tiny area is the landing strip for all coats, shoes, hats, and other stuff.  It is also the first area you see upon entering our home. A quick trip to LOWES, a few nails and more paint and I was done. I love the way it turned out and I can't wait to show you in the reveal.

The new roller shades are a game-changer for this room, they add a warm texture and light filtering privacy.  For complete privacy, I hung curtain panels.

The curtains I hung are faux silk curtains that I purchased a few years ago.  I think they are discontinued, but I managed to find a few that are similar.

Have you seen the new modern home line launched from Target called Project 62?  Even though my style isn't sleek and modern, I do love some of the pieces.  I purchased this round wall mirror for the entryway.

The area rug for the entryway arrived this week and I couldn't be happier!

I ordered the Gracie Oaks Roth Jute Handwoven Rug from Wayfair.  It is a 4' round natural woven rug.  I love the feel of this rug and the simple beauty it brings to the space.  Below is a link to a similar rug.  I am standing on mine in the picture above.
Finding the perfect sofa for a room is no easy task.  A lot of research online, measuring, thinking and re-thinking before I purchased this one by Birch Lane. During my search, I put together a list of affordable sofas that I will be sharing in an upcoming post.  I fell head over heels for this sofa and I can't wait for it to be delivered!

Well, that's it for me for this week.  Don't forget to check in on the progress of the other Guest Participants.

five minute fall leaf swag

October 26, 2017, in ,
'Tis the season for colorful leaves, pumpkin picking, and fireside lounging. I've swapped out my summer wreath for this fall swag that took five minutes to make.  I love a project that only takes a few minutes and this simple swag is one of those.

HOW TO MAKE A FALL LEAF SWAG

You will need four branches of colorful leaves.  They can be real or faux. You can find floral stems and sprays at Amazon.

STEP ONE
Gather the leaves and position them..... one on top of the other

STEP TWO
Use floral wire and twist tightly around the stems

STEP THREE
Tie a ribbon on it and hang your swag

Since this project only took five minutes to make, I had time to display a few pumpkins.  I love the look of pumpkins when they are grouped together, don't you?
It's already week 3 of the One Room Challenge!  I've reached the halfway point and I couldn't be more excited!  Last Week I talked about the Sherwin Williams paint color for the room that I absolutely love!  The paint color is a creamy white.  I think it is the perfect backdrop for the coastal style I am going for in the living - family room.  You can see my design plan for the room HERE.

This week I'm happy to say the walls are painted and I purchased window treatments and an area rug.  I found a simple round jute rug from Wayfair that I think will look pretty with the white walls.

There are three tall windows in our family-living room so dressing the windows can get expensive. My original plan was to purchase bamboo privacy shades but after doing some research I realized they were out of my tiny budget.  I was extremely disappointed that I couldn't buy the shades of my dreams, but I had to move on.  I decided to search Target and Home Depot for roller shades.  I found some affordable ones that are woven and have a privacy backing.  I feel they will be a good alternative to the bamboo shades.

Did I mention I am doing this project solo this time around?   How do you think I'm doing so far?

That's my update for week three.  Don't forget to check in on the progress of the other ORC Guest Participants.

Hi, friends,  it's week two of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling It Home.  I'm happy to say I got a lot done this past week!  I prepped the walls for painting and picked out the fabric for the new sofa.  If you missed week one you can check it out HERE.

One-Room-Challenge-Week-2-Painting-The-Walls

The first step in getting the room ready for my design plan is to paint the walls. This is the messy part of the challenge and what I think is the hardest.  The paint color I picked is Origami White by Sherwin Williams Paint Company.  I wanted something crisp and fresh, a little creamy but not yellow. This room has three windows and lets in a lot of light, I think it will be the perfect white for my beachy farmhouse living room.

I use a binder ring to keep my paint samples handy and organized.  Since I am using white on the walls, I'm going to try to incorporate some of these other colors into the design in fabric, furniture, accessories, and decor.

I took everything off the walls and spackled.  Hopefully, if my new sofa arrives on time the sectional will be going.  I need a fabric that is pet-friendly.  We use our small living room to watch television and to entertain family and friends.  This room needs to function as a family room and a living room for when guests come to visit.

I also plan on replacing the white blinds with woven shades. The television will be staying.

There is a small vestibule that enters into the living space.

I use this part of the living room as our entry.

Next week the entire room should be painted.  I can't wait to see this room white and bright.  I know all this mess will be worth it in the end. In a few weeks, I should have a completed space to show you. (hopefully, fingers crossed)

Hello everyone!  It's time for another One Room Challenge.  This time around I will be making over our family room.  It is the room we use the most and is the first room you see when you enter our home.  Let me explain what the One Room Challenge is.  It is a 6-week room makeover challenge.  Throughout the 6 weeks, I will post updates on how my room is coming along.  There will be a ton of inspiration from designers and other bloggers during the course of the challenge.  Here is what I did for the challenge last year:  Guest Bedroom

This makeover isn't nearly as big, but I am super excited to get started.  Below are my plans for the family room.

Our family room has gone through a lot of changes since we purchased the house 16 years ago. Here is what it looked like a few years ago.  We use this room to watch television and to entertain family and friends. For years I've wanted to makeover this space and even started by taking everything off the walls, life happened and it never got its rightful makeover.

Here is my to-do list for this challenge:

  • Paint the walls
  • Buy a new sofa
  • Buy new chairs
  • Buy new window treatments
  • Replace the lighting
  • Replace the artwork
  • New accessories
  • New area rug
  • Add a bench to the entry area
  • Add a console table to the entry area
