How to add autumn charm to shelves and styling tips

Pinecones, acorns, and pops of orange add a warm autumn charm to shelves.
When styling kitchen or dining room shelves my first order of business is to start with a blank canvas. In our dining room, there are built-in shelves that flank one side of the fireplace.

Here are some of my tips on how to style shelves:
I gathered my favorite dishware and organized the pieces by color on top of my dining room table. This gave me a good idea of what was shelf worthy.  After sorting through the dishware I decided to keep the color palette neutral with white plates and bowls and add a sprinkle of color with nature.

I stacked the plates and bowls in various heights and placed them in a row.  This adds visual appeal and keeps the shelves organized.

Now that the plates and bowls were in order, it was time to add interest to the shelves.  I call this part adding personality and it is one of my favorite things to do when styling.  I interspersed textures of wood, glass, and metal on the shelves.  An unexpected burst of orange and red was added with the faux fruit and a splash of blue with a stack of transferware cups.

Nature is a great way to add personality to shelves.  I placed acorns in a collection of mason jars, displayed a single pinecone on top of a wood cutting board and added a bouquet of hydrangeas to a metal bucket.

Antique Farm House is a fun place to shop when you're looking to add farmhouse style to your kitchen or dining room shelves. They offer a ton of farmhouse inspiration for your decorating needs!

My MARKET sign is the focal point and the star of the shelves.

I styled this photo slightly different and added a small canvas print of a feather.

There you have it!!

  1. Hi Julie
What a pretty fall vignette. Love the neutral colors with just a pop of red/orange. The canvas feather print is so pretty - it looks real! Beautifully done!
