Rustic Chocolate & Orange Cake

A chocolate cake made from scratch might seem intimidating, but it is quite simple to master.  This is an incredibly decadent cake with an intense chocolate flavor.  It is easy to make using one bowl and will quickly become your go-to chocolate cake recipe.  The name rustic came from the crusty biscuit like top on this chocolate & orange cake.

Rustic Chocolate & Orange Cake

Cakes are about celebration, and chocolate makes the world go round!  Bake this melt in your mouth cake for special occasions by dressing it up with whipped cream and strawberries. Or serve as a delicious dessert or an afternoon snack with coffee or tea.

This recipe was adapted from my mother.  I added orange zest and switched the semi-sweet chocolate for dark.  The result is an intense chocolate flavor with a hint of orange.  The dark chocolate chips inside the cake give it a fudge-like texture that melts in your mouth.  It is a sweet treat loaded with health benefits like vitamin C from the orange juice and powerful antioxidants from the cocoa powder and dark chocolate.  A list of the ingredients can be found below.  You can shop for them in the grocery store or from the convenience of your home at Amazon.com

INGREDIENTS:

FLOUR

SUGAR

COCOA POWDER

BAKING SODA

BAKING POWDER

BUTTER

EGGS

ORANGES

BUTTERMILK

PURE VANILLA EXTRACT

DARK CHOCOLATE CHIPS OR CHUNKS

POWERED SUGAR

I've baked this cake more times than I can count!  It is my go-to cake and for good reason.  It is easy to make and can even be done without an electric mixer. This cake freezes great, just wrap wedges in foil and warm in the oven.
